As a real estate agent, communicating with your customers is essential. It can be challenging to keep in touch with everyone, but following these 10 tips will help make the process easier. By staying in communication, you can build trust and keep your clients informed on all aspects of their purchase or sale. Communication also allows you to address any questions or concerns they may have. So, what are you waiting for? Let’s look at the 10 tips:
1. Schedule Time
We need to schedule a time to communicate with our customers. This way, we can ensure that we’re providing them with the best possible service. By setting aside time specifically for communication, we can create a more open and responsive relationship with our customers. Maybe every Monday morning works well for you. You may only need to block an hour, but make it a priority.
2. Make it Automatic
If you automate the process of communication through scheduled emails, you can keep your professional tone while still getting your message across efficiently. This can be a great way to maintain regular contact with clients or customers. Many email providers offer scheduling services, so make sure you schedule emails to go out regularly to keep your buyers and sellers informed of the next steps in their transactions. For example, if it’s time for the buyer to secure their homeowner’s insurance, an automated email scheduled to send to them can be a great reminder.
3. Know Their Preferences
Do they prefer email, a text message, or a good old-fashioned phone call? Don’t judge a book by its cover, either. You’d be surprised how many Gen-Z prefers in-person communication. In fact, statistics show that 72% prefer this method.
4. Underpromise, Overdeliver
You’ve heard this before I’m sure, but if you say you’ll follow up with some information, do it! And do it before they expect it. For instance, if you think you will need until Friday morning to get information about a new listing, tell them you will get back to them by Friday at 5 pm. This gives you a buffer, plus you get to overdeliver when you call them first thing in the morning!
5. Stay Professional
In today’s world of texting and instant messaging, we have lots of options to add emojis. While these are fun to use with friends and family, they may be viewed as unprofessional and should be used with caution, or not used at all. Young adults tend to accept them more than older professionals who see them as unprofessional and counterproductive. Ask yourself this question-if there’s ever a lawsuit regarding this transaction, how will my emoji communication look in a court of law?
6. Listen
Truly listening to your customer means staying silent. Don’t let your mind wander or think about what your response should be, but actively listen to their concerns and discussion. Take in what they are saying, and build on your relationship through listening.
7. Don’t Interrupt
There’s nothing more frustrating than having a conversation with someone that constantly interrupts you. Don’t be that person!
8. Build a Relationship
Building a relationship requires communication. You need to constantly talk to the person you want to build a relationship with. This will help you get to know them better and figure out whether or not you have common interests.
9. It’s Not All Business
You can pick up the phone and call someone or send them a quick text even if it doesn’t have anything to do with real estate. Maybe you saw something that made you think of that customer. Let them know you care. Simple communications can help build stronger relationships that last!
10. What’s the Goal?
Why take all this effort to communicate? Before reaching out to that person, consider the goal of the communication. Is it just to stay in touch or is it to gain an appointment? Is it to ask for referrals, or maybe to stay top of mind? Either way, never forget the goal of communication.
